Lupii Cafe, Vancouver’s First Zero-Waste Cafe
Lupii Cafe, located in Champlain Heights, is Vancouver’s first zero-waste cafe dedicated to environmental and social sustainability. Owned by SFU Beedie Professor, Lisa Papania, the cafe aims to reduce the amount of waste in our landfills and promote a sense of community among its neighbours. Everything about the cafe, from its food to its furniture, is recyclable. Their furniture and napkins are created by upcycled materials, therefore nothing goes to waste.
Lupii Cafe values sourcing local produce and makes use of produce that would otherwise be thrown into our landfills because of its sell-by dates or inadequate physical appearances. Moreover, the not-for-profit cafe provides $5 vegetarian buffets daily, consisting of a colourful variety of vegetable soups, breads, chia seed desserts, fresh fruit smoothies and more! Another great feature of the cafe is that at the last hour of each day, all leftover food is complimentary in order help the cafe’s mandate in reducing food waste.
The cozy, innovative, and welcoming atmosphere of Lupii Cafe makes it a great place for all members of the community to visit. It’s affordable yet delicious and sustainable food choices are also ideal for a student on a budget. Maybe your next study date will be at Lupii Cafe!
