Embark Sustainability Membership

Membership Opt-Out

Embark Sustainability is an independent, student-centred non-profit based out of Simon Fraser University. Importantly, Embark Sustainability members include all students enrolled in an SFU undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Currently, we represent over 35,000 SFU students and are committed to responsibly and transparently serving them as our members. For a small semesterly levy, our combined resources add up to meaningful collective action, advancing sustainability, and supporting student journeys at SFU and beyond.

Specifically, we receive $3.50 per full-time and $1.75 per part time student each semester, as set by successful student referendums. All students paying student fees are members of Embark and gain access to our society’s programming and services.

Notably, this includes access to:

  • The Embark Studio
  • Social Innovation Seed Fund
  • Volunteer opportunities, including board directorships
  • Programming, including Food Rescue, Community Kitchen and the Learning Gardens
  • Events and workshops

On one hand, we feel strongly about the importance of our role in supporting SFU students. On the other hand, we understand that not everyone is as passionate as we are about social and environmental issues. For that reason, we created a Member Opt-out and Fee Refund Policy that allows students to request refunds.

The process

Are you still sure you want to opt-out?

To opt-out and request a refund, please read this policy and schedule a meeting with our staff. Please note that you need to provide proof of enrolment and your Student Card for verification. Once we process your opt-out and member fee refund, you will no longer be an Embark Sustainability member and will lose access to our services.
