ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Nazafarin Esfandiari, Hi-FIVE Coordinator

My name is Nazafarin, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a Health Sciences student, and the current Hi-FIVE (Movement for Mental Health) Coordinator.

I am from Iran, and in our culture, just like many other cultures, food is a way of connecting back to ourselves and our communities.

There are many different ways in which food and mental well-being are interconnected. Our level of mental well-being can impact our eating patterns and vice versa. That is briefly why I am passionate about addressing this topic further, and I look forward to hearing others’ experiences and perspectives as well.

Jamie Hill, Embark Design and Communications Manager

Hi everyone, my name is Jamie (she/they) and I’m a settler living on the ancestral homelands of the Qayqayt and Musqueam Nations, otherwise known as New West.

I have a passion for environmental communication, exploring the intersections of anxiety, grief and climate as a blog writer and editor for several publications as well as through my role as Design and Communications Manager at Embark. I believe students are often a driving force for change, but also face complex outside forces when it comes to taking time to eat, rest, and engage in community care on top of all the pressures placed on them. I’m looking forward to exploring these intersections with you all and hopefully lessening the load!
